KEY LEARNINGS FROM THE PERFORMANCE LEADERS IN THE US

Following on from the successful US Study Tour, Leaders in Performance has issued the findings compiled from the 14 leading coaches and performance related experts that participated. Performance Directors, Sporting Directors, Head scouts, and Heads of Sport Science were some of the roles of attendees invited to the exclusive US Study Tour event in March 2010.

With exclusive access to the NFL, NBA, MLB, NY Yankees, Boston Celtics, NY Knicks, NY Giants and more, the tour offered unrivalled access, quality networking time, professional development and knowledge sharing between Europe and America's most highly regarded performance experts.

Skills vs. fitness, Talent identification and recruitment, cultural differences in sport, developing a winner culture, and using information gained from physical, technical, tactical and psychological assessments to improve performance were just a few of the topics discussed. Some of the findings include:

• 75% of American franchises visited believe that skill development comes before fitness work when it comes to preparing a winning team.

• 70% are of the opinion that salary caps in the US are a positive thing, and by giving players a salary percentage increase on a yearly basis it helps stop clubs being held to ransom by players.

• 90% believe keeping extensive records and using the most in-depth data available helps to give them the edge when it comes to selecting and improving the best talent in the US.

• 100% of those in attendance hailed the exclusive US Study Tour as an unprecedented success and said it was a great opportunity to gain an insight into professional sports in the US.
